The data you need to put us in a spec

Two products worth a line in your spec: Flyway™ bird-safe glass and the Antique Mirror Collection. Threat Factors™, substrate limits, ready-to-paste spec language and physical samples are published here rather than gatekept behind a rep visit. If something you need isn't on the page, ask and we'll send it.

Flyway™ Bird-Safe Glass

Five permanent surface-1 etch patterns, evaluated by the American Bird Conservancy and the Bird-Safe Buildings Alliance in August 2026. All five satisfy ABC's bird-friendly criteria. Etched in Minnesota, which matters more than it sounds when you're holding a submittal.

D3 mm vertical lines4.00″ o.c.25
E3 mm horizontal lines2.00″ o.c.20

All patterns: permanent etch on surface 1, gloss < 6 at 60°, acceptable on any vision or tinted glass unit with all coatings behind the etch. ABC's bird-friendly threshold is a Threat Factor of 30 or lower.

Two routes on insulating glass. We supply the unit through an IGCC-certified partner such as Oldcastle where the project requires certification, or build it in-house to any configuration you want. Either way the Flyway etch is ours. Tell us which the spec calls for and we'll route it.

The Antique Mirror Collection

Thirteen patterns of clouded, veined and patinaed mirror, finished in-house and stocked in Burnsville, so a feature wall, back bar or ceiling can be specified from local inventory, cut to your drawings, and sampled from the actual run before it goes on a finish schedule.

Ready-to-paste spec language

Decorative antique mirror: Antique Mirror Collection by River City Creative Glass, Burnsville, MN, as basis of design. Pattern: [Château Blanc]. Silvered mirror glass with antiqued, clouded finish on the back (silver) face; [tempered / annealed], tempered where required by IBC Section 2406 safety-glazing locations.

Fabrication: Cut to sizes on drawings; edges [flat polished]; notches and cut-outs as shown. Fabricator to field-verify openings.

Samples: Submit two 12″ × 12″ samples of each specified pattern for Architect's approval, drawn from the production run to be supplied.

Quality: Variation in clouding, veining and tone within a pattern is inherent to the material and is not cause for rejection. Order the full quantity for each area from a single production run.

Installation: Set with a neutral-cure, mirror-safe adhesive and mechanical support at the bottom edge; keep the silvered back and unsealed edges free of standing moisture.

Bracketed items are yours to fill in. Send us the draft and we'll confirm the pattern, glass type and fabrication limits before it goes out.

Why it's worth a line in the spec. Most antique mirror on a finish schedule is a national brand shipped in as stock sheets. Ours is finished and stocked here, which means custom sizes and a matched single-run order are routine, samples come from the run you will receive, and the person answering the RFI is the one who made it.

What we'll do before there's a project

  • Send physical samples of any pattern, texture or color
  • Review draft spec language and tell you if it's unbuildable
  • Lay a bird-safe pattern onto your elevation so you can see how it meets mullions
  • Mock up a color match before it's committed to a schedule
  • Tell you what glass can't do: radius limits, thickness, how a color reads through float
Spec notes

Three things worth knowing at spec stage

Insulating glass comes two ways. We etch units from an IGCC-certified partner, or build them in-house to any configuration. Where the spec requires certification, we route it through the certified partner.
The five evaluated patterns carry a Threat Factor™. We can fabricate a custom bird-safe layout too, and we'll tell you plainly where that leaves the rating.
Antique mirror varies sheet to sheet. That is the material behaving correctly rather than a defect, but it needs to be understood before it lands on a finish schedule.
Specifier FAQ

Questions from the drawing board

How do I specify Flyway™ bird-safe glass?

Call for bird-friendly glazing with markers on surface 1 having a material Threat Factor™ of 25 or lower as assigned by the American Bird Conservancy; name Flyway™ by River City Creative Glass as basis of design; name the pattern; and require all coatings behind the surface 1 etch. There's ready-to-paste spec language on the patterns page.

Does the etch affect the Low-E coating or U-value?

No. The etch is on surface 1 and all coatings sit behind it. Your thermal package is unaffected by the bird-safe layer, and vice versa. This is explicitly covered by the ABC evaluation, which states the patterns are acceptable on any vision or tinted glass unit with all coatings behind the surface one etch.

Can you match a custom color?

Yes, to a chip, a paint code or a sample. One thing to write into the spec: use low-iron glass for whites and pale colors. Standard float carries a green cast that will shift a true white toward mint no matter how good the paint match is.

How do I specify antique mirror?

Name the Antique Mirror Collection by River City Creative Glass as basis of design and the pattern by name, call out tempered or annealed (tempered wherever IBC 2406 safety-glazing applies), require samples from the production run, and state that variation within a pattern is inherent and not cause for rejection. There's ready-to-paste language above. The one thing that goes wrong on site is a large area ordered in two batches, so specify a single run.

Can you do a custom bird-safe pattern?

We can fabricate it. But only the five evaluated patterns carry an assigned Threat Factor™, and we'll tell you whether your layout still sits inside the geometry ABC evaluated or becomes an unrated pattern. If the project is chasing a credit or satisfying an ordinance, that distinction matters.

What's the lead time on samples?

Usually a few business days for a sample kit. Because we etch and paint in-house, we can also produce a sample of your specific pattern or color rather than sending the nearest stock item.

Will you talk to us before there's a project?

Yes, and we'd prefer it. Most of the expensive surprises in glass come from decisions made before anyone called a fabricator.

Send an elevation.

Or a finish schedule. We'll come back with a pattern recommendation, a layout or a sample set, and the data to defend it in review.
